Lumen announces the launch of its Edge Private Cloud solution.

Lumen has launched a private cloud solution called Edge.

Lumen’s new solution, which is fully managed by the company, provides pre-built infrastructure for ‘high-performance private computing’ that is connected to the firm’s fibre network.

“Lumen has decades of experience assisting customers with the implementation of private cloud solutions for mission-critical workloads, and we are now extending those capabilities to our ultra-low latency Edge platform,” said Chris McReynolds, Lumen’s vice president of cloud Edge product management.

McReynolds added that locating workloads close to the points of interaction can improve user experiences, application performance, and security and control.

“With Lumen Edge Private Cloud, our customers can quickly deploy a customised private cloud environment, with Lumen assisting with design, implementation, managed services, and security consulting,” he explained.

VMware Cloud Foundation and Software-Defined Data Center (SDDC) technology, combined with VMware Cloud Director, power the managed Infrastructure-as-a-Service. The company stated that the service can be provisioned within days and is designed to have a latency of 5 milliseconds.

The solution is available at the company’s Edge computing locations, as well as in more than 2,200 third-party data centres worldwide, on customer premises, and via VMware on AWS.
