Intel today announced the launch of its most advanced, highest-performance data centre platform, which is optimised to power the industry’s wide variety of workloads — from cloud to network to intelligent edge. Intel’s data centre platform is built on the new 3rd Generation Intel Xeon scalable processors (codenamed “Ice Lake”). The latest Intel Xeon Scalable platform features the Intel Optane persistent memory 200 series, the Intel Optane Solid State Drive (SSD) P5800X, and the Intel SSD D5-P5316 NAND SSDs, as well as Intel Ethernet 800 Series Network Adapters and the latest Intel Agilex FPGAs.

According to Intel, the new 3rd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors deliver a significant performance boost over the previous generation, with an average 46 percent increase in performance for popular data centre workloads. Additionally, the processors add new and enhanced platform capabilities, such as Intel SGX for built-in security, Intel Crypto Acceleration, and Intel DL Boost for artificial intelligence acceleration. Together with Intel’s portfolio of IntelSelect Solutions and Intel Market Ready Solutions, these new capabilities enable customers to accelerate deployments across cloud, AI, enterprise, HPC, networking, security, and edge applications, the company claims.

CtrlS, ESDS, Pi Datacenters, Reliance Jio, and Wipro Limited are among the early adopters of the new 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable platform in India.

For the cloud: 3rd Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors are designed and optimised to meet the demands of cloud workloads and are compatible with a wide variety of service environments. According to the company, the largest cloud service providers intend to offer cloud services powered by Intel Xeon Scalable processors in 2021.

For the network, the latest Intel Xeon Scalable processors deliver an average performance boost of 62 percent over the previous generation across a range of widely deployed network and 5G workloads.

To provide an intelligent edge: According to Intel, the third generation of Intel Xeon Scalable processors provides the performance, security, and operational controls required for powerful AI, complex image or video analytics, and consolidated workloads at the intelligent edge.
